To build a 12V battery pack, you will need: 18650 Cells: At least three cells connected in series. Battery Management System (BMS): To protect against overcharging, over-discharging, and short circuits. Nickel Strips: For connecting the cells. Spot Welder or Soldering Iron: To secure connections.
To build the battery pack, we are taking 4 cells in series and adding a parallel cell, so we have double the voltage and capacity per cell. See the diagram above for how to go about connecting the cells. The only limiting factor is that all of the cells need to be identical.
Any short circuit in the battery pack may lead to the catching of fire and explosion. First, add a layer of insulating Barley Paper over the top and bottom side of the battery pack. Barley Paper is pure cellulose with high electrical insulation properties that have made it possible to use them for the making of portable lithium-ion battery packs.
