The energy system is rapidly transforming with the increase in distributed energy resources (DERs), data and innovative technologies being used, such as electric vehicles, battery storage and flexibility services. According to the Future of Smart, smart energy systems have an economic potential of £1.5 billion for London by 2020.
The proposed solution is able to improve the security, flexibility and economy of the power grids with high penetration of renewable fuel vehicles. The increasing penetration of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) such as electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen-driven vehicles, etc., poses reliability and stability issues to modern power grids.
To tackle this, this paper presents a novel concept, named as smart mobile power bank (SMPB), to implement grid-friendly vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology and mobile charging station.
There are a number of challenges for these mobile energy recovery and storage technologies. Among main ones are - The lack of existing infrastructure and services for multi-vector energy EV charging.
Thermal energy storage technologies enable the desired heat or coldness to originate from centralised thermal generating facilities (with a higher system level efficiency due to shorter conversion and transmission chain) instead of a standalone on-board air conditioning system (with a lower system level efficiency).
