A lithium-ion capacitor (LIC or LiC) is a hybrid type of capacitor classified as a type of supercapacitor. It is called a hybrid because the anode is the same as those used in lithium-ion batteries and the cathode is the same as those used in supercapacitors. Activated carbon is typically used as the cathode.
Hybrid lithium ion capacitor using this garnet-ceramic electrolyte as interlayer for water-proof protected-lithium-anode, 21 m LiTFSI aqueous electrolyte and commercial AC as cathode shows a high working voltage between 2.2 and 4.0 V and a high energy density of 228.9 Wh (kg-carbon)−1 at a power density of 1343.2 W (kg-carbon) −1.
Correction added on 12th August 2023, after first online publication: Ref. 7 has been updated with DOI link. Lithium-ion capacitors (LICs) are becoming important electrochemical energy storage systems due to their great potential to bridge the gap between supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion capacitors (LICs) are becoming important electrochemical energy storage systems due to their great potential to bridge the gap between supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries. However, capacity lopsidedness and low output voltage greatly hinder the realization of high-energy-density LICs.
A practical 1000 F Lithium-ion capacitor is fabricated, which exhibits State of the art device performance. Lithium-ion capacitors (LICs), consisting of a battery-type anode and capacitive cathode, hold great promise for achieving high-energy and high-power densities.
