As a result, there is a growing need for enhanced flexibility to maintain stable and reliable operations. This study reviews recent advancements in power system flexibility enhancement, particularly concerning the integration of RESs, with a focus on the critical role of energy storage systems (ESSs) in mitigating these challenges.
The application scenarios of energy storage technologies are reviewed and investigated, and global and Chinese potential markets for energy storage applications are described. The challenges of large-scale energy storage application in power systems are presented from the aspect of technical and economic considerations.
