The three offers received meet the tender requirements, and the Danish Energy Agency assesses that all companies have the capacity to ensure the capture, transport and storage of CO 2 to the extent that they have committed to. All three projects are expected to developing and maturing the CCS value chain in Denmark.
Three companies, I/S Vestforbrænding, Ørsted Bioenergy & Thermal Power A/S, and Aalborg Portland, were pre-qualified to participate in the tender, and all the three of them submitted indicative offers and participated in negotiations with the Danish Energy Agency.
In February 2023, the Minister for Climate, Energy and Supply granted the first licenses for CO 2 storage in Denmark in order to establish CO 2 storage in the Danish North Sea. In March 2023, Project Greensand injected the first CO 2 into the Danish underground in a pilot and demonstration project supported by the EUDP.
Therefore, a political decision has been made to establish three subsidy funds to support the deployment of CCS technology in Denmark and to deliver greenhouse gas reductions by 2030 and 2050 to contribute to the achievement of Danish and international climate goals.
