Abstract— A 3rd-order passive switched-capacitor low-pass filter is presented together with experimental results. The current input - voltage output filter structure realizes complex-conjugate poles although it is composed of switches and capacitors.
Passive low pass filter can also be composed from resistor and inductor, called RL low pass filter. A common low pass filter can be made from a simple RC circuit with the capacitor as the output. Thus, a passive low pass filter is mentioned as a low pass filter RC circuit. The example of low pass filter RC can be seen in Figure. (1).
Therefore, this application note takes a closer look at the considerable influence of DC voltage on the capacitor, and hence the filter design. The focus is on an LC low-pass filter, as used as an input or output filter for switching regulators or a power supply filter for a module. 2 Types and Properties of MLCCs
The output is the voltage over the capacitor y (t) as shown in the schematic below. This type of filter is called an Infinite-Impulse Response (IIR) filter, because if you give it an impulse input, the output takes an infinite time to go down to exactly zero.
As an example, a single-ended 2nd-order passive switched-capacitor filter can be investigated using the denominator of the filter transfer function given in (2) for N=2 as follows: Fig. 13. Transfer functions of the simulated and measured 3rd-order low-pass PSC filter and the simulated 7th-order all real pole filter. to 44.93o .
SWITCHED-CAPACITOR CONTINUOUS-TIME MODEL A switched-capacitor circuit can be modeled using an equiv-alent resistance placed between the two nodes that alternatively charges and discharges the capacitor.
