McLaren puts the Senna’s power-to-weight ratio at 659bhp per tonne. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission drives to the rear axle, firing the car from standstill to 62mph in 2.8sec, matching the official claim for the P1. ADAPTIVE SUSPENSION
The McLaren Senna is priced at £750,000 including taxes (UK). Just 500 will be built, each hand-assembled in a 300-hour process at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking, Surrey, England. All are assigned to buyers, the one remaining build allocation having been auctioned in December 2017 at a private event for McLaren customers.
The new, track-focused suspension that makes its debut in the McLaren Senna is the most advanced system ever in a McLaren road car. Called RaceActive Chassis Control II (RCC II), it features double wishbones front and rear, with adaptive dampers interconnected hydraulically, both left to right and front to back.
The Senna can generate 800kg of downforce and uses active aerodynamics to help manipulate that vertical force. There are pairs of blades at either side of the front end, situated below the headlights and painted orange on our car. The lower paid of blades adjusts to maintain an optimal aero balance, working in conjunction with an active rear wing.
The Senna’s engine, meanwhile, is an evolution of McLaren’s Ricardo-constructed 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, dubbed M840TR. It produces 789bhp at 7250rpm and 590lb ft of torque between 5500rpm and 6700rpm; 79bhp and 22lb ft improvements on the closely related motor in the 720S.
