Solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation refers to the process of converting energy from the sun into electricity using solar panels. Solar panels, also known as PV panels, are combined into arrays in a PV system. Solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation can also be installed in grid-connected or off-grid (stand-alone) configurations.
Abstract: This chapter presents the important features of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and an overview of electrical storage technologies. The basic unit of a solar PV generation system is a solar cell, which is a P‐N junction diode. The power electronic converters used in solar systems are usually DC‐DC converters and DC‐AC converters.
They have also demonstrated the capability of the model in accurately simulating the I–Vand P–Vcharacteristics of the real PV module. The proposed model can also be used to design and simulate solar PV system with different power converter topologies and controllers including different MPPT control methods.
The basic unit of a solar PV generation system is a solar cell, which is a P‐N junction diode. The power electronic converters used in solar systems are usually DC‐DC converters and DC‐AC converters. Either or both these converters may be necessary depending on whether the solar panel is connected to a DC load, an AC load or an AC grid.
The basic components of these two configurations of PV systems include solar panels, combiner boxes, inverters, optimizers, and disconnects. Grid-connected PV systems also may include meters, batteries, charge controllers, and battery disconnects. There are several advantages and disadvantages to solar PV power generation (see Table 1).
